Social media marketing is a great way to keep your target market engaged and your business at the forefront of their minds. However, it isn’t as simple as making a Twitter page and hoping for the best. You need to post relevant content and avoid getting too promotional if you want to get big results. Without further adieu, here’s what not to do when social media marketing:

Be Too Promotional

Getting too promotional with things you post on social media will only drive people away. They won’t want to follow you if you constantly talk about why they should buy your products. Make sure you’re posting interesting, valuable information that your audience will enjoy.

Engage in Public Arguments

Never, ever engage in public arguments. It can be difficult if a disgruntled customer leaves you a horrible comment or message, but you must always keep an air of professionalism about you. Remember, a lot of people will see this and it will only change their opinion of you.

Use Too Many Hashtags

Using too many hashtags makes it look as if you’re desperate to be found. Don’t overdo them. If your words are strong enough, you won’t need to use many at all. It’s not too difficult to get the best from your social media profiles without using too many hashtags.

Forget to Use Pictures in Your Posts

Posts that have pictures get way more attention, shares, and clicks than posts that don’t have pictures. If you forget to use quality, relevant pictures in your posts, you’re making a big mistake.

Have Multiple Brand Personalities

You should keep a consistent brand personality as you write on your social media. This may be humorous, serious, playful, or simply friendly. Make sure it’s consistent so that your audience feel like they are getting to know you. If one day you’re serious and the next you’re playful, this can be confusing and your audience won’t like it.

Focus Solely on One Network

You should explore multiple networks so you can target a bigger portion of your audience. This is the best way to go about social media marketing. Make sure you brainstorm to work out where they will be and how you can get through to them before you create your profiles.

Ignore Interactions

Never ignore interactions from customers or your audience. You should always respond in some way if you can. Whether you have nice feedback or a complaint, responding to these interactions will build your audiences confidence in you as a brand.

Ignore the Holidays

If you ignore the holidays, e.g Easter, Christmas, and Thanksgiving to name a few, you’ll begin to look stale and dead. You should always write seasonal things and keep your audience engaged this way.

Now you know what not to do when you’re concentrating on social media marketing. You should be able to get a big response from this strategy if you follow the tips in this guide. Social media is huge, so you shouldn’t ignore the power of it!
